DOLL HOUSE BOOK CASE
From start the finish this project should take no more than a day and the entire project will cost in the region of R800.

You will need:
9mm Supawood cut to the following sizes
(3) 250 x 800mm – base and shelves
(2) 250 x 890mm – sides
(2) 250 x 250mm – shelf supports
(1) 245 x 245mm – door
(2) 50 x 800mm – front/back kick plates
180-grit sandpaper
Panel pins – small
(8) Adjustable shelf pins
Alcolin professional wood glue
Alcolin wood filler
Paint and equipment for finishing

TOOLS: Jigsaw with blades for clean cutting and fretwork, hammer, drill with 5mm and 10mm wood bit, spirit level, nail punch

Here’s how:

1. Measure and mark both sides to create the roof points. Use a jigsaw to cut and lightly sand the edges.
2. To assemble the base, use panel pins and glue to attach the base to the front and back kick plates and leave to dry.
3. In the meantime, mark and measure for the windows in the sidepieces. Measure 400mm and 650mm up from the bottom and mark on both sides for the windows. Each window measures 80 x 140mm. .
4. Use a drill with a 10mm wood bit to drill a hole in each drawn window. This will allow you to insert the jigsaw blade to cut out the openings. Sand the edges smooth with 180-grit sandpaper
5. Attach the sides to the base with wood glue and panel pins and leave to dry.
6.Position the first shelf upright and use the door to determine the exact width. Remember to allow a 4mm gap for the hinges on the door. Apply a bead of wood glue to the bottom and top edges of the shelf upright.
7. On each side measure 250mm up from the base and 30mm in from both edges. Use a 5mm drill bit to make holes for adjustable shelf pins. Position the first shelf so that it rests on the shelf support.
8.Mount the next shelf in exactly the same way, measuring up 250mm from the previous shelf.
9. Glue the two sections of roof together, overlapping one piece over the other. Leave to dry.
10. Apply a bead of glue to each end of the roof and attach to the sides using panel pins. Use a nail punch to hammer the pins to just below the surface.
11. Fill any holes with wood filler; leave to dry and sand smooth.

Finishing
To prime the unit for painting, water down the base coat until slightly runny. Apply to the entire project and leave to dry. Apply two coats of Prominent Ultragloss water based paint in your choice of colours, allowing sufficient drying time between coats. Use acrylic craft paint to apply the decorative details and finish off the entire project with 2 coats of water based varnish, again allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
