The first goal by  Siphiwe Tshabalala in the 2010 FIFA world cup against Mexico

his sprightly and diminutive creative midfielder or left winger is blessed with an excellent turn of speed, a large and deep bag of tricks, fine close control and a facility for a defence-splitting pass. Tshabalala is one to make things happen, the wild card that could turn South Africa from no-hopers into contenders.

He is a graduate of Kaizer Chiefs’ much-respected youth development programme and also has played for Alexandra United and Free State Stars. Tshabalala made his international breakthrough at the 2006 African Nations Cup, a mere eight months after turning pro.

The Soweto-born attacking maestro is said to be attracting interest from a number of Turkish and French clubs. “The dream for all of us is to play in Europe and we know what this World Cup can do if we perform at our best,” Tshabalala says. “More importantly, it is the day South African dreams are coming true and the world’s best players come to our country.”
