    Hi Guys

Park and ride transport Operations at Nasrec and Southgate will be combined  for the Semi –final match between Bafana Bafana and Brazil  tonight .  All buses will be operating out of Nasrec, and there will be NO operations running from Southgate. Sufficient buses  will operate from Nasrec to Ellis Park  in order to transport fans to the game.

The City asks that all fans please be patient with the boarding of the Park and Rides and  to try to come early to the game.

The City also encourages the use of Metrorail and PRASA to access Ellis Park   in order  to get to the game.

    Thanx

The Loftus match was much better because we parked close by, walked in and out of the match. The police presence was very visible there as well. They must be use to having having such crowd as it is the Blue Bull capital.

    Hi

I found that there was vast improvement in the Wits park and ride but still there was problem at the pick up point there is still some issues.

I think the crowd needs to be more disciplined and patient to stand in queues. There needs to be more police visibility and officials at the pick up points to co ordinate the crowd to get into the transport.  It is a great challenge to get 52000 people back at once. We all need to learn to work together to make this successful.

    17/06/2009

    />

response from the  Joburg transport department

Thank you also for using the Park and Rides and we guarantee you a better service next time. We have also deliberated as the Dept on sunday and we going to be putting in place the following measures:

    1. Park and Rides will now be for free, cash collection created queues.
    2. Wits had 3000 cars and over 12 000 fans using it and we have asked Wits to kindly open gates 9,10 and 6 for the remaining games.
    3. More deployment of SAPS, JMPD, security and Riot Police to assist with queues.4
    4. We are busy printing brochures to be collected at each Park and Ride facility to assist with wayfinding after the game.
    5. Sigange at the pick -up points will be improved.

    6. Pick up points are as follows: Wits- Cnr Voorhout and 8th Street, Dome is Voorhout and Princess, Nasrec- Voorhout and 8th and Bez Valley is Liddle street.

From our side we appeal to the public to be patient with the queues, we transport fans over a 4 hr period to the stadium and fans expect to be out of there within an hour, We are doing our best to clear as soon as possible.

Many thanks once more for your support.

I found out the pick up zone street addresses for the park and ride returnoig from the stadium from Ellis park back to your park and ride.

From Wits, Nasrec and the Dome its at Voorhout Street at Ellis Park
From Bez Valley its Liddle Street.

The confed cup opening ceremony was brilliant. The atmosphere was electric. The multicultural fans all cheering was brilliant.

The park and ride seems to be fine tuned and the officials and traffic police need to be informed regarding the different park and ride information.

I am looking for the street addresses of where the different park and rides for ellis park is. Where does one get picked up to go back to where you came from. We were dropped somewhere and when we returned there, the park and ride was for another place and not the one we came from.  We saw a picture at the stadium with that information after we walked the whole stadium. Does anyone have this picture.

It looks like taking the train might be a quicker way.

Here is the metro rail link and timetable for the confed cup for Loftus and Ellispark

    12/06/2009

You can apply for tickets online on FIFA.COM or at your nearest FNB branch or at the following ticket centres. Please note if you buy them online or at FNB you will still have to go to your nearest ticketing centre to collect them.

It looks like mainly category 1 tickets for most matches are available at R700. Yah you snooze you loose ne’.. these tickets were out in November 2008.

You can’t buy tickets for the following matches as they are not available – looks like opening ceremony will be joining this list soon.

    Match 2 – NZL v ESP

    Match 11 – ITA v BRA

    Match 16 – Final Winner 13 v Winner 14

Looks like Bloemfontein still has most of their tickets still available for all categories. Rustenburg, Johannesburg and Loftus mainly have only category 1 left.

    iTransie signs

A sign to access the areas around the stadium

The Johannesburg Roads Agency has been hard at work putting up signs at strategic locations and intersections around the city and on the freeways. There are different types of signs, some on the freeway and others in suburban areas. These signs will assist fans in finding their way in and out of the city; some are within the city and will direct spectators to the stadium and park and ride facilities; and some are general way signs within the park and ride facilities and stadium precinct. The park and ride facilities selected are pre-existing and have been tested in the past two years for their suitability. Full stadium capacity volumes are expected, particularly for the closing and opening matches, and the City is well prepared.

A temporary directional sign to a park and ride facility

    Public transport

Shine201o.co.za Each host city operates a minimum of:

    1.    A public shuttle from the airport to stadium precinct

    2.    Park & Ride services from a select number of collector points via shuttles to the stadium on match days as well as to fan parks, city centres and other key attractions throughout the event.

Regular public transport services The special services are well planned to attract a large proportion of visitors and spectators so as to relieve traffic pressure on the stadium access routes and stadium precincts. Metered taxi services at airports, city centres and close to stadiums are to also be utilised, offering independent options for small groups and individuals.

Stadium access Approaching the stadium via public transport shuttles and by pedestrian access is highly promoted whilst private vehicles are to be heavily restricted. Each host city has a clear stadium approach plan with a wide, vehicle free, pedestrian only zone with the closest private vehicle parking areas being located at least 2-3 km from the stadium.

23/11/2008 The FIFA confederations cup draw happened this weekend. Bafana Bafana have an interesting group with New Zealand and Iraq. Let’s hope they can go further and grow from strength to strength. FIFA started selling tickets today the 23 November 2008. The cheapest tickets start from R70 to most expensive to R700. Tickets are not sold to you directly. Everyone has to apply for tickets and once FIFA confirms your application you pay for it. Tickets are sold on a first come first service basis. You can apply for tickets online on FIFA.COM or at your nearest FNB branch. The hottest match that I spotted was e ITALY vs BRAZIL in LOFTUS in Pretoria.
